A Time to Give Thanks

A Time to Give Thanks

That wonderful holiday season is once again upon us when we are reminded to be thankful for our Lord’s saving grace, for family and friends.  We at HHM are thankful to have survived the extreme heat in the tents during the summer months.  We are thankful that the 2 hurricanes that came our way did not tear our most important tents (or homes) apart.  We are thankful that the guesthouse is finished and a warm, welcoming place for our short term teams.  We are thankful that God sent a builder our way and that the main clinic building is rising from the earth to become a strong refuge for health in a very unstable country that is vulnerable to natural and man made disasters.  We are thankful that God is continuing to send us new long and short-term help for the clinic work.  We are thankful that God has given us what was needed to date to build and meet our monthly clinic operational deficit of $2000.

As we look towards the end of the year and beginning of 2013 we still have a lot of work to do.  To finish the main clinic building alone we lack at least $150,000.  God has graciously given us 2 groups who have committed to trying to raise $25,000 each, but those monies will likely not come in before they are needed.  After the clinic is done we hope to build a pharmacy building and guesthouse kitchen/cafeteria/laundry building.

On the personal side of things, with the blessing of more workers, has come an added responsibility to provide safe housing for them.  Sally and Bob are currently living in the guesthouse taking up a room that would be available for teams.  Jenn has been in a confined space since the day of the earthquake nearly three years ago now.  First if was a guesthouse room and now a 12×24 wooden house on blocks.  Since her marriage last spring, the hope and possibility of a child have entered the picture and you can imagine trying to raise a baby inside a 290 sq ft house.   As a result a foundation is beginning and we are praying God will send not only the funds, but the teams to work on this small house.

We are admonished in Scripture to live by faith.  One thing that Haiti teaches in abundance is faith.  It is quickly learned how little you can control and how much our God does control.  Trusting a God who loves us so becomes a way of life here.  He will send us the needed funds when we need them.  He will send us the needed people and he will send us everything else that we truly need.

This new clinic compound has taken a tremendous amount of work as well as money.  Thank you for praying for HHM and following God as He speaks to you regarding how you can help this year and next.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
