March-April 2017

2 Volunteers from World Medical Missions

Sarah and Elaine arrived March 1 and worked together for about 10 days.  Elaine joined us from the United Kingdom and is finishing 2 years of rotating internship following medical school.  She was great fun and her accent was delightful as well as “brilliant”-her favorite word.  Sarah was here for the entire month and such a help in many situations.  She had spent time in Mosoul Iraq at Samaritan’s Purse DART hospital there.

Lakeway Church Team

Dr. Stephen, an orthopedist, brought another team from his church in Austin TX.  We were blessed with Diane who helped us in administration, Jaycie, a student nurse who got to do a lot of things she doesn’t in school, and Pastor Larry who was such and encouragement to us.  Dr. Stephen did some small surgeries and then injected lots of sore joints, and gave pointers on what could be done to help all the aches and pains.  They were a blessing as always.

 Dermatology at HHM

We often get volunteers from nearby ministries who want to work in the medical field where they are talented.  If they come with a larger team doing something locally, they sometimes come to HHM for day trips to work in the clinic.  In March Dr. Michael a dermatologist came to us from Hope Rising Children’s Home to consult for 4 days and he saw some very interesting cases.  What a blessing to get to see a specialist in a country where there are very few.

Ed and Pat Gilsbach Depart after 2 1/2 Years of Service

With sad hearts we said good bye to Ed and Pat after their term of service ended on March 29.  We loved having them here and will miss their friendship and expertise at the clinic and around the compound.  Please pray for God’s guidance as they determine where He is leading them.

Spring Cardiac Clinic

Owen came back with his incredible team from Haiti Cardiac Alliance the end of May.  We had 2 new postop patients to check on as well as those still on the waiting list.  Guerby and Peter are both from our neighborhood so it was especially nice to see their progress following surgery.  We saw 22 patients.  We are up to 18 patients who have had surgery now.  Just amazing!

2 More Volunteers from WMM Arrive in April

Dr. Chuck arrived on April 1st and was so much help.  He stayed for over 3 weeks working hard on the weekdays, increasing our number of patients seen.  Dr. Craig joined him a couple weeks later and he will stay for 4 months helping to cover the clinic while Jim takes a couple weeks off in July to visit with our family and relax some.  Because of these two volunteers we had several days during that time when we were able to see all of the patients that arrived.  This is very unusual and there were some happy faces at getting a “yellow clinic card” that is so hard to come by.

Easter Weekend

We kept our tradition of going somewhere special on Easter weekend with the HHM gang.  This year we went to the Karibe Hotel in Port au Prince and enjoyed a lovely weekend.  As you may remember we allowed one of our orphaned heart patients to live in one of our intern tiny houses on the compound.  Guerby turned 17 on Easter Sunday and it was a special time for him to enjoy along with our 2 WMM volunteers.  We enjoyed special meals at an Italian and Latin restaurant in the evenings and Easter services at Quisqueya Chapel in Port.

Emily Court Approved for Long Term Ministry with HHM

Emily will be joining the HHM team as soon as she is able to raise sufficient support.  She has finished her premed degree  in biology with minor in health psychology from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  She hopes to continue her education as a physician assistant as God leads, and will be learning as much as she can while working at HHM.  She has worked for a year at a malnutrition clinic in Carrefour a suburb of Port au Prince for a year and is fluent in Creole and familiar with the challenges of living in Haiti.  In addition to working at HHM she hopes to adopt a child named Nehemie, that she came to care for while working in Haiti.  Please help Emily come to help out by praying for her, supporting her financially, or having her speak at your church if near her home in Nashua, NH.

Prayer Requests

1.  Praise God for the many volunteers coming to help us to heal the sick near Gressier.

2.  Pray for the Gilsbachs to be led by God to the next step in their pathway to serving our Lord.

3.  Please pray for Emily to raise her support quickly and prepare to come help out at HHM.

4.  Please continue to pray for resolution to the lingering land deed problem.

James 5:7-8 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord.  See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.  You also be patient.  Establish your hearts for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
