Dr. Chuck Thurber Serves for 1 Month

Dr. Chuck had a special time serving with us in March and April.  Although 75 years of age he decided to do a mission trip to Haiti through World Medical Missions (the missions arm of Samaritan’s Purse).  He was always cheerful as he took on a heavy day of serving the Lord at the HHM clinic daily.  We were blessed to have him join us on our annual Easter weekend “retreat” which was spent at Jacmel this year.  We were touched by Chuck’s desire to serve and always helpful attitude.  We have had several individuals come to us from WMM since we began partnering and appreciate their help in finding us individuals to serve at the clinic here.

Community Coalition of Haiti Has Surgical Clinic in Jacmel

We were glad to once again send patients to Jacmel for surgeries in March.  We had 10 patients participate and many had surgeries.  This was mostly gynecology surgeries and the ladies were very pleased to be able to get their surgeries done well and very cheaply.  What a blessing this is for our patients.

Hallea Jo Geiger Leaves after 4 Months of Service with HMM

We were sad to see Hallea leaves us after serving since the beginning of the year.  Hallea was a blessing to HHM helping Matasha keep us on track as we ministered to the needs of many needy and poor Haitians.  She always had a cheerful attitude and helped make work at the clinic pleasant.

Sally Todd Transitions to Respire Children’s School to Work in their School Clinic

Sally has felt called to work at a children’t school near HHM to care for the needs of restavek and other poor and vulnerable children attending their school.  We will miss her expertise in caring for malnourished children and educating mothers in an effort to improve the health of the children of Haiti.  She has been an important part of the ministry at HHM since 2012.

Marlene Joins the Staff of HHM as a Nurse

We have been blessed to be able to hire Marlene as a nurse in the clinic.  She was recommended to us by Boss Tingue, and after taking a test and interviewing with us she began work  April 20.  She has proven to be a competent nurse and committed Christian.  She is single, lives in a nearby neighborhood, and is a willing worker.  Matasha Pecht has been doing a great job orienting her to the work at HHM.

Jim Begins to Train a Haitian Nurse Practitioner

Towards the end of February Jim began the 500 hour training period with a recent graduate of a nearby school.  The school is located in Leogane and according to several expats is one of the best nursing schools in the nation.  Emerson was 1 of 3 students who were recommended to us by the US partners.  He will complete his training by Jim on June 7 and we hope to hire him full time after that.  Emerson is from Leogane and plans to remain in the area.  His children attend the Christianville school nearby.  He has proven to be a hard worker and committed Christian man.  Jim plans to train at least one other.  These small steps help to move the clinic towards more sustainability.

Prayer Requests

1.  Short term providers to help us see the many who need our care.

2.  A long term family practitioner to practice at HHM to eventually replace Dr. Jim and help handle critical patients as well as oversee the national physicians and physician extenders.

3.  A pharmacist to work with our technicians for 6 months to improve our pharmacy services.

4.  Spiritual warfare for resolution of the smoldering land conflict. Pray God will preserve His land to the glorification of His Son Jesus Christ’s name.

5.  We need to find fire brick to build an incinerator.  Please pray that God will reveal where we can find them.

6.  Praise for the hiring of a new nurse and nurse practitioner.

7.  Pray for Berlange to deliver her baby safely after 34 weeks at HUM-Hospital Universite de Mirebalais.

Matthew 6:20-21 “But keep on storing up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal, because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
